「Take it out on」
「人に～しないように強く説得する」という意味です。
前回ご紹介した“Talk me into doing”は “～することを強く説得する”という意味でした。今回は「into doing」ではなく、「out of doing」ですので前回とは逆の意味、“「～しないように」強く説得する”となります。
Meaning:To strongly persuade someone to not do something.
Example:I have tried to talk Wayne out of quitting his job at the bank. I think it would be a big mistake!

| Shota: | Congratulations on getting engaged with Lucy! So, have you set a date yet? And more importantly, am I going to get an invite? |
| James: | Naturally, as I’m hoping you’ll be my best man. If you are not already aware, the groom has a best man to look after him in the run-up to the ceremony, plus you’ll be expected to make a speech at the reception after. |
| Shota: | Oh, I’d be most honoured to be your best man. I know what being a best man entails, but what should the speech be about, and what should its tone be? |
| James: | Plan your speech to be around five minutes, and make sure that you include one or two amusing anecdotes – as long as the language is clean! |
| Shota: | Right. So, is it to be a traditional white wedding followed by a big party? |
| James: | If I had my way, yes. Lucy wants to keep it low-key and intimate. Therefore, we’re now scouting around for a small chapel and a restaurant that will cater for just 40 people. |
| Shota: | I can certainly see Lucy’s point. Weddings are far too expensive in Japan, and why spend all that money on just one day? |
| James: | True, true. In any case, she has agreed to be a little less frugal when it comes to the honeymoon. We’re both in agreement that it’ll be luxury all the way at a hotel where we can be properly pampered! |
| Shota: | Any thoughts as to a location? |
| James: | Somewhere peaceful and tranquil. She has her heart set on Tahiti – the embodiment of paradise for her. And to be honest, I can’t see much wrong with her choice. Sorry, mate. The date is the 29th of March next year, so make sure you cancel any commitments you might have. |
| Shota: | Of course! Your special day and being your best man takes precedence over anything else. I just hope that my speech is up to the mark. |
