| Liam: | Online chat… I don’t know… It smacks of laziness. Furthermore, back home, meeting someone online was often viewed as an admission of being socially incapable of conversing with people of the opposite sex. |
| Riku: | Well, there is no such stigma attached here. You’ve said it yourself that work takes up too much of people’s time. Online chat gives many people the chance to chat with others that they would otherwise have no chance of meeting. |
| Liam: | Have you tried it? |
| Riku: | Not personally, but a colleague of mine is an avid chatter. He’s on it all day long. Lucky for him, the boss’s view of him is obscured by a filing cabinet. It’s obvious to anyone that can see him that his attention is not on his work! |
| Liam: | It sounds like he’s addicted to it – a compulsive chatter. But is he just making “friends”, or is he searching for something more? |
| Riku: | He says not, but a motive beyond just friendship has to be the only explanation for the inordinate length of time he’s online. |
| Liam: | Well, thanks. It’s food for thought. I have a computer at home, and since it isn’t seen as completely nerdy, online chat could be the way forward. Are there any sort of unspoken rules when it comes to chatting? |
| Riku: | My colleague hasn’t disclosed any specific information, but I do know that the conversations should be of a decent nature. Other than that, after you get chatting to someone a few times, you can set your own parameters. My only advice is, just remember that all is not as it appears to be. |
