| Ryan: | Thank you ever so much for coming over to my family’s do last weekend. In spite of it being your first time to meet some more of the Jones clan, I thought you handled it rather well. |
| Taro: | Well, with your mother being so hospitable, and my liking your dad’s placid nature, I was never going to turn down your invitation. The rest of your family were a great bunch. But your uncle David! No topic was taboo for him. |
| Ryan: | Ha ha! Yes, he is very broad-minded, which probably comes from the fact that he’s spent the majority of his life moving around from country to country. His exposure to so many cultures has had a large part to play in forming his character, I’m sure. |
| Taro: | More than likely. I chatted a lot with your other uncle, Simon, for a while, too. He came across as being a very genuine, sincere person. The interest he showed in my family history was real, I felt. |
| Ryan: | Oh, he’s a fantastic man! You know when talking with some people sometimes you get the feeling they would rather be elsewhere, even with family? Well, I’ve never sensed that with him. I can really open up to him. And even though he’s a very successful lawyer and often handles high profile cases which can on occasions put him in the media spotlight, he’s very modest about it all – probably the most modest person I’ve ever known. |
| Taro: | And a lot of him is evident in his daughter, Louise. For someone that is still at high school, she’s incredibly articulate. It’s a pity they had to leave early, as her and I were getting into a deep discussion about whether geographical location and a country’s wealth are related. |
| Ryan: | Yes, she’s very well read, and very conscientious, particularly towards her studies. She’s already been accepted to Cambridge University, where she’s to study mathematics. Did you get the chance to talk with her older sister? A very effervescent one, she is. |
| Taro: | Sadly, I didn’t, but I could hear her constant giggling in the background, though. Her mother, your aunt, even though she was obviously struggling with a cold, was laughing and smiling. When’s your next gathering? |
| Ryan: | I don’t know, but I’ll be sure to invite you again. |
