「Go our separate ways」
<英語でdefinition!> The breaking of a relationship between two people or organizations.
直訳すると、「私たちの別々の道を行く」。大体の意味は取れますが、例文を見るとよく分かります。議論が二つに完全に割れてしまい、どうにもならなくなったとき、この表現が使われます。
例文 This arguing cannot continue! It has to stop! I think it is time we both went our separate ways. I think we should break up.
（この議論はもう続けられないな！ここで止めなければ。我々の意見が二つに完全に分かれてしまったようだ。ここで解散すべきだと思うよ。）

質問を投げかけた後、重ねてもう一度質問をし直すことがよくあります。最初の質問はごく一般的な、大まかな質問。そしてすぐ後に、最初の質問よりも詳しく聞くための質問、といった具合です。 例えば、「先週はどこへ行ったの？京都へは行けたの？」などです。この表現方法はよく耳にすることがあると思います。
今回は会話文を通して、使い方に慣れていきましょう。

二重疑問文に注意しながら、まずはトランスクリプトを見ないで音声だけを聞いてみましょう。
次にディクテーションの練習として、音声を聞きながら会話文を書き取っていきましょう。これを数回繰り返し、最後にトランスクリプトを見て、埋められなかった箇所をチェックします。
| Employee: | I’m not spying on you or anything, but as it’s your first day, the boss asked me to come over and see how you are getting on. There’s a lot of things to get used to. |
| New Employee: | Thanks. So, how do I use the phone? I mean, what number do I need for an outside line? |
| Employee: | Press 9, followed by the number you wish to call. And for an inside line, just dial the extension number. There should be a directory in one of the drawers in your desk. |

| New Employee: | Print off a hard copy and take it over to your section leader. You really ought to do that as soon as you’ve completed each one. |
| Employee: | And if he isn’t there? I mean, is it just he who has the authority? |
| New Employee: | If he is unable to do it, for whatever reason, try one of the other four section heads. Just remember not to leave any hard copies unattended on your desk. Believe it or not, we’ve had instances of accounts going missing, and they contain sensitive client information. |
| Employee: | Right. And thanks for answering my questions. I’ll call if I encounter any more difficulties. |
