「Go our separate ways」
<英語でdefinition!> The breaking of a relationship between two people or organizations.
直訳すると、「私たちの別々の道を行く」。大体の意味は取れますが、例文を見るとよく分かります。議論が二つに完全に割れてしまい、どうにもならなくなったとき、この表現が使われます。
例文 This arguing cannot continue! It has to stop! I think it is time we both went our separate ways. I think we should break up.
（この議論はもう続けられないな！ここで止めなければ。我々の意見が二つに完全に分かれてしまったようだ。ここで解散すべきだと思うよ。）

次にディクテーションの練習として、音声を聞きながら会話文を書き取っていきましょう。これを数回繰り返し、最後にトランスクリプトを見て、埋められなかった箇所をチェックします。
文中に出てくる単語をいくつか選び、それらを使いながら関心のあるエクササイズについて英語で述べてみましょう。
| Daisuke: | Don’t misinterpret this, but you’re looking really good these days. You seem to have lost a fair amount of weight and you look more toned up. |
| Stuart: | Thanks for the compliment. Yes, I was starting to balloon, but it took a few harsh words from my girlfriend to convince me of the fact. And I’m now trying to remedy that by going to the gym as often as I can. |
| Daisuke: | Good for you! It’s tough at first. And I should know. There was a time before you joined the office when I was pretty overweight, to put it mildly. I joined a gym, and for the first couple of months it was hellish. You have to persevere. |
| Stuart: | Ah, I’ve got through that stage, and now I’m really enjoying it, especially as I’m starting to reap the benefits. Furthermore, I’m sleeping better and feel more focused on the work. |
| Daisuke: | Exercise, coupled with healthy eating can only be a good thing. Are you taking any supplements? |
| Stuart: | Not as yet. Do they truly help? My diet is much more balanced, and I’ve cut out all chocolate and red meat, plus late-night snacking is a thing of the past. Now, I guzzle fat-free milk instead. |
| Daisuke: | Yes, supplements work. They work by turning more of your fat into muscle. Instead of drinking water after each exercise, mix the supplement with water and drink that. It’s at its most effective when your muscles are throbbing with pain. |
| Stuart: | Also, I cycle around Tokyo whenever possible. I would cycle in here if there were showers. I sweat profusely, which would not make for a pretty sight! |
| Daisuke: | I don’t doubt that ha ha! If you’re so into the cycling thing, we should go out into the countryside on weekends on our bikes. It’s fairly flat outside of Tokyo, so it need not be too strenuous. |
| Stuart: | Yes, why not? Apart from anything, it’ll give me a good reason to escape Tokyo now and again. |
