“Make a pass at...”
<英語でdefinition!> Talk to a man or woman with the intention of dating them.
ここでの"pass"は、「色目」という意味です。"Make a pass"は「ナンパする」「言い寄る」というイディオムで、at以下に言い寄る対象を付け加えることができます。
ちなみに"pass"には、アメフトなど球技の際に「パスを出す」という際の「パス」の意味もあります。状況/文脈によっては、"make a pass"は、「（球技の最中に）パスを出す」という意味にもなります。
例文 I am sure that man with the dark blue shirt made a pass at me. He was constantly complementing my appearance.

| Kei: | Happiness is subjective. How can you put a figure on an emotion? It’s like trying to give a measureable answer to the question “How much do you love me”? |
| Rex: | Its validity notwithstanding, are you not a little surprised at the result? |
| Kei: | Denmark is a prosperous country with a thriving economy…..So, where does Japan appear in the rankings? Higher than Britain, I bet. |
| Rex: | Were it based on weather, back home would be languishing in the lower places, but as it is, we’re 41st, and Japan is 90th. Health, access to education, followed by prosperity were the determinants. |
| Kei: | 90th out of how many? |
| Rex: | 178 - in the lower half of the table, with The UK sitting comfortably in the upper half. |
| Kei: | Japan’s result is absurd! Japan has the longest life expectancy of anywhere on earth. Its medical care is renowned for its efficiency and competence. Further education is universally available, and its GDP per capita is, if not the highest, then one of the highest in the world. |
| Rex: | Evidently, those who responded to the survey thought otherwise. But I’m surprised at Denmark being top. Their weather must get you down. I would have gone for Australia. They always seem a happy, contented bunch. |
| Kei: | On that basis, then, Thailand ought to have fared well, too. Did the article happen to mention how many people’s answers the results were drawn from? |
| Rex: | 80,000. Rather unrepresentative, I know. That said, governments should take some notice. Being able to slash taxes, while presiding over a booming economy is not the dream state that their people necessarily seek. |
| Kei: | Ah, sorry it’s my phone. It’s my mum. I have to take it. |
