“Make a pass at...”
<英語でdefinition!> Talk to a man or woman with the intention of dating them.
ここでの"pass"は、「色目」という意味です。"Make a pass"は「ナンパする」「言い寄る」というイディオムで、at以下に言い寄る対象を付け加えることができます。
ちなみに"pass"には、アメフトなど球技の際に「パスを出す」という際の「パス」の意味もあります。状況/文脈によっては、"make a pass"は、「（球技の最中に）パスを出す」という意味にもなります。
例文 I am sure that man with the dark blue shirt made a pass at me. He was constantly complementing my appearance.

| Roland: | Hello Clive. Judy just told me about your father’s passing away. Let me offer you and your family my deepest condolences. |
| Clive: | Thank you very much. This has been without doubt the most harrowing time in my life. My mother is totally inconsolable and can’t stop crying, and my sister has a ghost-like expression on her face. |
| Roland: | And how are you bearing up? |
| Clive: | I’ve got to be strong for them, but inside I’m seething at my father being taken from me while I’m still in my 20’s. |
| Roland: | I just can’t understand it either. When I last saw him in the summer he was a picture of health and was all excited about his new business venture – no hint of what befell him. |
| Clive: | That’s what makes it so hard to bear. Once the cancer took hold and became terminal, his condition deteriorated rapidly. It was horrible to watch him in his hospital bed seeing him slip away, and there was nothing we or any of the doctors could do. |
| Roland: | I apologize if this comes across as being insensitive, but at least now he has escaped the pain, and is at peace. |
| Clive: | You’re right, you’re right. To see his face contorted with the pain is something I’m glad I won’t have to witness anymore. |
| Roland: | Have you made all the funeral arrangements yet? If you need help, any help, don’t be too proud to ask me, okay? |
| Clive: | That’s very kind. However, everything has been done. The service will be held at the All Saints church next Tuesday, followed by the cremation, as per his wishes. I would invite you, but my mother wants to keep it simple. |
| Roland: | I completely understand. Anyway, when you need a shoulder to cry on, don’t hesitate to call me, okay? |
| Clive: | I appreciate it, mate. Again, thanks for the call. I’ll be in touch soon. Bye. |
