「Take it out on」
「人に～しないように強く説得する」という意味です。
前回ご紹介した“Talk me into doing”は “～することを強く説得する”という意味でした。今回は「into doing」ではなく、「out of doing」ですので前回とは逆の意味、“「～しないように」強く説得する”となります。
Meaning:To strongly persuade someone to not do something.
Example:I have tried to talk Wayne out of quitting his job at the bank. I think it would be a big mistake!

不動産屋のマネージャーとスタッフとの会話です。
まずはトランスクリプトを見ないで音声だけを聞いてみましょう。
次にディクテーションの練習として、音声を聞きながら会話文を書き取っていきましょう。これを数回繰り返し、最後にトランスクリプトを見て、埋められなかった箇所をチェックします。
| Manager: | I’ve just received a directive that all regional branches are to start tracking their rental incomes from the properties above the stores that we let out. Therefore, I would like you to set up a separate account for them and recover any missing payments. It is suspected that these could number in the hundreds of thousands of dollars in our region alone. |
| Staff: | Me? I’m so busy with what I have now that I won’t be able to give it my full attention. Why not assign it to Paul? |
| Manager: | No. This calls for your methodical skills. And this matter is so important that we can’t afford to have a single mistake, something, I’m afraid, Paul has been prone to of late. |
| Staff: | OK. How about one of the others? Jane over there is so quiet that she’s almost asleep. Look! |
| Manager: | Hmm. Sales are so sluggish that I will get her to give you a hand. It’s going to be quite painstaking work going through all those rent receipts. |
| Staff: | How do you want me to proceed? |
| Manager: | First, get a list of all the properties we rent out and the rental agreements. I think they are in a box file somewhere in the filing room. |
| Staff: | Really? It’s so disorganized in there that finding it alone could take a day! |
| Manager: | Once you’ve found them, set up a spreadsheet with all the properties, their monthly rental amounts, as well as due dates. |
| Staff: | Right. And after that, start matching them up with payments on our bank statements. |
| Manager: | Yes, and remember, all you need to concern yourself with are cheque entries. And if you’re not sure whether the deposits are for rent of not, get onto the bank for assistance. |
| Staff: | And then set up a separate rents account for the ledger? |
| Manager: | Call it “Property Income”. And remember, doing this well is so important that all other things you’re doing must wait. This takes precedence. |
