「Take it out on」
「人に～しないように強く説得する」という意味です。
前回ご紹介した“Talk me into doing”は “～することを強く説得する”という意味でした。今回は「into doing」ではなく、「out of doing」ですので前回とは逆の意味、“「～しないように」強く説得する”となります。
Meaning:To strongly persuade someone to not do something.
Example:I have tried to talk Wayne out of quitting his job at the bank. I think it would be a big mistake!

コウイチとリアムの会話です。リアムが自社のある顧客についてコウイチに嘆いています。
まずはトランスクリプトを見ないで音声だけを聞き、内容を理解しましょう。
次にディクテーションの練習として、音声を聞きながら会話文を書き取っていきましょう。これを数回繰り返し、最後にトランスクリプトを見て、埋められなかった箇所をチェックします。
| Koichi: | So, talking of matters financial, how’s your business doing these days? |
| Liam: | Generally, the prospects for later this year and early next are looking rather rosy except for one unsavoury problem. |
| Koichi: | I’m intrigued. Do tell. |
| Liam: | It’s one of our clients, a leading car manufacturer, refusing to pay us for work we did for them. Of course we weren’t naïve enough to commence the work without getting a contract drawn up and signed, but that doesn’t seem to matter to them. |
| Koichi: | But you’re in possession of a legally-binding contract. You’ve got the law on your side, surely? |
| Liam: | We do, but as our company is still in its infancy we’re still very much reliant on people in the industry saying favourable things about us in order to build a good reputation. |
| Koichi: | And you’re worried that if you take legal action your company will be bad-mouthed, dampening any hopes of securing more illustrious clients? |
| Liam: | That’s it. The client is insisting that our work wasn’t to the specifications laid down in our first consultation, even though we received nothing but glowing reports from those directly involved. Their general manager took one look at the website and said “It’s not what I wanted”. |
| Koichi: | How can he or she say that? |
| Liam: | It’s he. And he hasn’t stopped there. In what is tantamount to intimidation, he’s been bombarding our office with phone calls and spitting vitriol at our poor secretary. He’s demanding we redo the work for free. |
| Koichi: | That’s flagrant intimidation. Have you thought about getting the police involved? |
| Koichi: | Not yet. But this week our lawyer served him a letter outlining the consequences of his continuing in the same vein. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens next. |
