お役立ち英語フレーズ

「Take it out on」

Meaning:To strongly persuade someone to not do something.

Example:I have tried to talk Wayne out of quitting his job at the bank. I think it would be a big mistake!

Satoshi: Weren’t you on business in Indonesia at the time of that calamitous earthquake? I must confess, I was a little concerned for you.
Mervin: Yes, I was in Sumatra when it struck. Thankfully, my colleagues and myself came through it unscathed even though the place we stayed at was less than 50 kilometers from the epicentre, which is more than can be said for the unfortunate souls who resided in the apartment block opposite.
Satoshi: I saw the news unfold on CNN, and it just made me appreciate the stringent building codes that we have here in Japan.
Mervin: But that’s to be expected, what with Kobe, and there being more money in Japan. However, if a quake of a similar magnitude to the 2004 one in the same region which caused that devastating tsunami were to strike Tokyo I doubt too much would remain standing, building regulations or not.
Satoshi: Granted, nothing is entirely safe, but at least we would have a better chance of survival than those in poorer nations. So, was that the first major quake you’ve experienced?
Mervin: Major, yes. Of course I’ve felt numerous tremors since I moved to Tokyo. But that in no way helps you to prepare for a big one. And with a big one supposedly impending, I’m constantly surprised at what I consider to be the blasé attitude of Tokyoites. For me, they just don’t seem to care.
Satoshi: It’s not a case of not caring. More it’s something that most have lived with throughout their lives and therefore don’t live in a state of constant fear about.
Mervin: Yes, I can appreciate that. However, most locals I know haven’t even taken the simple precaution of preparing an emergency bag. In the event of a big one, I can’t help but think that it’s irresponsible to not have some sort of basic first aid supplies and provisions, especially as the emergency services are likely to be overwhelmed by the number of injured.
Satoshi: My wife and I have got our emergency kit sat by the front door. And we take part in all the practice emergency drills. Takako, by her own admission was fortunate to survive Kobe, and she wants to give her and myself the best chance of survival.
