「Take it out on」
「人に～しないように強く説得する」という意味です。
前回ご紹介した“Talk me into doing”は “～することを強く説得する”という意味でした。今回は「into doing」ではなく、「out of doing」ですので前回とは逆の意味、“「～しないように」強く説得する”となります。
Meaning:To strongly persuade someone to not do something.
Example:I have tried to talk Wayne out of quitting his job at the bank. I think it would be a big mistake!

”like”の用法に注意しながら、まずはトランスクリプトを見ないで音声だけを聞いてみましょう。
次にディクテーションの練習として、音声を聞きながら会話文を書き取っていきましょう。これを数回繰り返し、最後にトランスクリプトを見て、埋められなかった箇所をチェックします。
| CEO: | ...therefore I see no other course of action that’s available to us. We’re going to have to rationalise by merging your department with Richard’s. |
| Director: | I agree that times like this require some cost-cutting. However, could we just make this a temporary measure until things pick up? There are emerging markets that we ought to be looking to tap into. J&J did it successfully. |
| CEO: | They did, but not without taking huge risks. And companies like that can easily raise the necessary capital to take such risks with a shares issue which is something not available to us, as you’re well aware. |
| Director: | Yes, but their profits… |
| CEO: | I know what you’re going to say. And I say levels of inflated profits like that cannot be sustained, and in the end these encourage over-extension, which in turn is followed by rapid contraction that often proves disastrous. |
| Director: | But aren’t we here to discuss downsizing? |
| CEO: | Only downsizing that leaves our core operations intact. There’ll be staff losses and some scaling back in places… |
| Director: | Well, if you’re determined to go down that path, let’s make sure we keep our most skilled people. People like that can help us drive forward again when the opportunity arises. |
| CEO: | Right. So the next step is to get Richard on board, and then we need to convene a manager’s meeting to start discussing how this merger can be done quickly and without disorder. And, yes, hopefully this will only be for the next year or two. |
