| Nigel: | …Oh, and speaking of Nami. Have you heard that she’s going to have cosmetic surgery on her nose? It seems she couldn’t take anymore of my jokes about her button-like nose, so she’s made a reservation at a leading clinic to have it made taller and a little narrower. |
| Keita: | Yes, Ayami told me. She’s never struck me as the sort of person who would be swayed by other people’s opinions. She’s a tough, level-headed, confident girl with lots going for her, especially at work - what with her promotion and all. |
| Nigel: | No, Keita. Underneath, she’s got her little insecurities like the rest of us. And in a way I admire her for having the guts and fortitude to have this surgery, knowing full well that when she goes back to work she’ll have colleagues whispering and gossiping behind her back to contend with. |
| Keita: | That’s inevitable. A girl that sits near me at work came into work a couple of weeks back and got lots of quizzical looks as we all tried to work out in what way her looks had changed. She was certainly the topic of conversation on all of the dining tables near me that lunchtime I can tell you. |
| Nigel: | What would you say if Ayami suddenly announced that she wanted surgery? |
| Keita: | It would depend on what part of her body she wanted enhancing. Although if she were to go down that path it would most likely be to her lips. Unusual in Japan I know. However, I’ve often caught her passing jealous looks at foreign women here who have big, full lips. |
| Nigel: | You’ve still not answered my question, Keita. Would you object or not? |
| Keita: | Not so much object, more I would reaffirm my belief that she has a figure and looks that could easily grace the cover of a fashion magazine and that any surgery may, in fact, detract from those good looks in some way. But ultimately it would be her decision. It’s her body after all, so I would support her, albeit reluctantly. |
| Nigel: | Cathy has a complex about her big nose, and it wouldn’t be inconceivable of her after chatting to Nami post-op for her to want to have a nose reduction. |
| Keita: | It doesn’t protrude that much! |
| Nigel: | Try telling her that! Anyway, it’s a moot point, as we don’t have the money for such frivolities for this year at least. We’ve got the deposit for a mortgage to save for. Oh, what’s… |
