ビジネス - 依頼/指示をする際の表現

Delegate（委任する・委託する）は、 人に何かをするよう依頼する/指示する、という意味です。マネージャー層の人達は自分の部下に様々な指示を出します。直接相手に対して指示を出す/依頼をする 場合は、以下のような言い回しが使われます。
Can you handle…?
I would like you to…
Can I leave…with you?
Could you take care of…?
Can you look after…?

会話
ある企業のマネージャーと部下の会話です。
依頼/指示の表現に注意しながら、まずはトランスクリプトを見ないで音声だけを聞いてみましょう。
次にディクテーションの練習として、音声を聞きながら会話文を書き取っていきましょう。これを数回繰り返し、最後にトランスクリプトを見て、埋められなかった箇所をチェックします。
| Manager: | I’ve called you here in order to inform you that Richard won’t be with us for the next three months. The strain we’ve all been under has proved too much for his health, and he’s going to take a sabbatical, which means I’m going to have to delegate his workload to you. |

| Manager: | I have faith in you all. And the budget need not concern you anyway. So, Alan, Richard was involved in some very protracted talks with the Board of Trade about granting us an export license. Can you handle that, please? |
| Alan: | As long as you or he can bring me up to speed. |
| Manager: | Call Richard later, Alan. Next, Phil. Can you take care of organising this year’s trade fair? Sue can give you a hand with that. |
| Phil: | OK. But I’m going to have to halt… |
| Manager: | Yes, you can shelve that for the time being. Lionel, I’d like you to take over the day-to-day dealings with his European clients. I can give you his password to access all the info. |
| Lionel: | I’d rather look after his Asian clients, if you wouldn’t mind. Before the departmental reshuffle, I looked after them, if you remember, and I built up a pretty good rapport with the major ones. |
| Manager: | On second thoughts, you’re right. You take his Asian clients, so can I leave his European clients with you, Paul? It’s the chance to step up that you’ve been asking for. |
| Paul: | Thank you. You can count on me. |
| Manager: | Great! Well, that’s all everyone. And again, thank you. |
