お役立ち英語フレーズ

「Take it out on」

Meaning:To strongly persuade someone to not do something.

Example:I have tried to talk Wayne out of quitting his job at the bank. I think it would be a big mistake!

Friend A: …And since we’re on the topic of football, what did you think of this summer’s World Cup?
Friend B: It never really scaled the heights, did it? But then again, these major sporting events rarely do, do they?
Friend A: Yeah. The hype was unwarranted. However, for me, it was marred by some atrocious officiating. FIFA know that the eyes of the world are going to be on their referees, and yet they selected ones that have had no experience at a major tournament…
Friend B: To be fair to them though, the players with some of their antics made their job a hard one.
Friend A: I’m not referring to the players feigning injury in order to get players yellow-carded or sent off - and there was far too much of that. What I’m talking about is their failure to spot blatant off-sides and goals.
Friend B: Yes, although I’m an Aussie through and through, I thought England were robbed, even though they were outplayed by the Germans, and if they had been awarded that goal they would still have gone on to lose.
Friend A: But how do you know that? If the referee had seen, like almost everybody else did, the ball crossing the line, the German’s might have crumbled under the pressure and England could well have taken a stranglehold on the game and gone on to win.
Friend B: It’s a big “if”.
Friend A: Now, I can appreciate that a referee can’t be in two places at once and can’t be expected to keep up with the play all the time, so that’s why some sort of instant replay system should be made available to the officials.
Friend B: FIFA won’t go for that. They say it undermines the authority of the referee.
Friend A: Do you agree with FIFA? They’re opinions on goal-line technology belong in the Stone Age! Other major sports have acknowledged that human error exists and have used technology to aid their officials. What FIFA have blatantly failed to grasp is that some errors lead to coaches losing their jobs, thus having an impact on people’s lives outside of the game.
Friend B: But with technology, where do you draw the line?
