「Take it out on」
「人に～しないように強く説得する」という意味です。
前回ご紹介した“Talk me into doing”は “～することを強く説得する”という意味でした。今回は「into doing」ではなく、「out of doing」ですので前回とは逆の意味、“「～しないように」強く説得する”となります。
Meaning:To strongly persuade someone to not do something.
Example:I have tried to talk Wayne out of quitting his job at the bank. I think it would be a big mistake!

期限を言い表す表現はいくつかあります。
以下の、左側にあるものと右側にあるものの正しい組み合わせを考えてみましょう。
下記の表現はいずれも期限を表す表現ですが、それぞれ緊急度が異なります（この中で緊急度が最も高いのは”Right away”であり、緊急度が最も低いのは”When you have time”となります）。
現在の時刻が、水曜日の午前9時だと仮定します。下記の表現のうち、それぞれにふさわしいものはどれでしょうか？右側の表現を緊急度の順に並び替えてみましょう
会話
マネージャー、トム、サイモン、ニールのの会話です。
期限にまつわる表現に注意しながら、まずはトランスクリプトを見ないで音声だけを聞いてみましょう。
次にディクテーションの練習として、音声を聞きながら会話文を書き取っていき ましょう。これを数回繰り返し、最後にトランスクリプトを見て、埋められなかった箇所をチェックします。
| Manager: | Tom, when are those expense figures going to be on my desk? I said I wanted them by the end of yesterday, so what’s the hold-up? |
| Tom: | There are a few outstanding claims that need further looking into. Once I’ve received the necessary paperwork, which I’m expecting within the hour, I’ll get right on it. |
| Manager: | Really! You’ve got to learn how to better organize your time. The final accounts must be ready on Friday for the board meeting. Anyway, Simon, have you cleared out all those entries in the suspense account? |
| Simon: | All except one - the $45,000 entry. |
| Manager: | Well, I want that moved out of there right away. Dump it in the petty cash account for now and when you get time, I want it properly allocated. And Neil, have you completed those adjustments I asked you to do? |
| Neil: | They should be all done before I leave tonight. I need signed authorisation from a couple of department heads who are currently out. |
| Manager: | Why didn’t you say that before? In their absence, I can sign for them. |
| Neil: | Yes, but… |
| Manager: | Don’t waste your time chasing up a couple of managers who really should know better. They know how things operate here. Make the adjustments as soon as possible. I’ll take the heat if they prove to be wrong. |
