Friend 1: ...Can you believe that? That's the 4th door-to-door salesperson I've had trying to peddle their rubbish today! They're nothing but a nuisance!
Friend 2: I can understand your annoyance. Four is rather excessive. However, I kind of feel sorry for them. Being turned away all those times, and often aggressively too, must be pretty demoralizing.
Friend 1: You wouldn't be saying that if you lived here, and especially if they called in at inopportune moments like they usually seem to do!
Friend 2: Come now, they're just doing their job. Look, in the course of your work there must be people who wait for a call from you with trepidation...
Friend 1: And they don't take no for an answer and can be quite pushy. One last week, a vacuum cleaner salesman I believe, tried to barge past me into my apartment to take a look at the cleaner I now have. He couldn't be bothered with the niceties of waiting for permission.
Friend 2: That is a step too far, I grant you, and more than likely an isolated incident.
Friend 1: If only it were! One guy, a youngish shady-looking character, was constantly peering over my shoulder to have a good look inside. I pushed him away and he started to accuse me of assault!
Friend 2: Oh! I presume nothing came out of his threats.
Friend 1: No, they were idle ones, of course. But it got me really riled up and I pleaded, perhaps too passionately, with the apartment caretaker to put a halt to those uninvited and unwelcomed calls, but to no avail.
Friend 2: I've had them banging on my door for over a minute! And as you know, the noise of a fist being pounded on that creates a racket that can't be ignored.
Friend 1: How about displaying a sign on your door asking them to keep away?
