「Bend the rules」
<英語でdefinition!> Change the rules to benefit an individual.
Bendは「曲げる」という意味の動詞です。Bend the rulesで「規則を曲げる」。規則を単純に「変える」のではなく、誰かの利益になるように「曲げる」というのがこのフレーズの意味。
例文： You cannot bend the rules and give Satoshi a big bonus just because he is your son!
（サトシが君の息子だからというだけで、彼にボーナスをあげるように規則を変えるべきではないよ！）

中級 - 付加疑問文

単語・表現
英会話の中で付加疑問文(Tag questions)は最も一般的です。
付加疑問文のイントネーションが上がるか下がるかによって意味が変わります。上がれば質問ですが、下がれば「～ですよね」というような意味になります。
例えば：
Could you have sound files of these two examples- the first with rising intonation at the end, the second with falling intonation?
１． It’s cold today, isn’t it? ↗ (= 寒いですか？)
２． It’s cold today, isn’t it? ↘ (= 寒いですよね。)
文書の基本動詞が肯定形の場合は付加疑問文の動詞が否定形になるし、否定形の場合は肯定形になります。例えばYou can speak Japaneseという文書にtag questionを付けると基本動詞の「can」が「can’t」に変化します。You can speak Japanese, can’t you? You can’t speak Korean, can you?
