| Kyle: | It was pretty scary. Some of the world’s leading climatologists are predicting that the earth’s temperature will rise by at least 5 degrees in the next 10 years. |
| Alice: | Yeah, I’ve heard that. Some are even saying that it may rise by 10 degrees. |
| Kyle: | Gosh, that’d be disastrous! |
| Alice: | You’re not wrong. The polar ice caps would partially melt, sea levels would rise, many places would be flooded. |
| Kyle: | And not only that, this program last night was saying that some of the worlds biggest rain forests might not get the monsoonal rain that they need to survive. |
| Alice: | So what would happen if it didn’t rain there? |
| Kyle: | Well, they were saying that the trees would die and release massive amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere making the whole problem even worse. |
| Alice: | Geez, it makes you wonder whether we’re doing enough to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. |
| Kyle: | And apparently, the worst thing is that we have around 25 years to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels; otherwise the damage will be irreversible. |
| Alice: | Yikes! |
| Kyle: | But, of course, not everyone agrees that this is what will actually happen. Some people say that these predictions are exaggerated and that we have a very limited impact on global warming. |
| Alice: | Still, better to be safe than sorry. |
| Kyle: | You got that straight! |
