「From bad to worse」
<英語でdefinition!> Becoming more and more unacceptable.
“bad（悪い）状態からworse（もっと悪い）状態へ”。つまりこの表現は、「もともと悪い状況/状態にあったものがさらに悪化すること」を言います。
例文 Ayumi’s English grades have gone from bad to worse - 50% last semester, to only 31% this semester.

海外の夏時間についてTsuyoshiとLeeの会話です。まずはトランスクリプトを読まずに会話を聞いてみましょう。
| Tsuyoshi: | Lee. You’re from England. Isn’t England nine hours behind Japan? |
| Lee: | Not at this time of the year. Daylight Savings time is now in operation, the difference is eight hours. |
| Tsuyoshi: | I heard something about that when I was in the US last week, but I don’t really understand how it works. |
| Lee: | Well, I have no idea about the USA, but in the UK between the end of March and the end of September, the clocks move forward one hour from standard GMT. |
| Tsuyoshi: | Sorry. Still don’t get it! I am confused! |
| Lee: | OK, well on the last Sunday of March at 1am, the clocks go forward one hour to 2am. Then on the last Sunday of October at 2am, they go back to 1am. Now do you understand? |
| Tsuyoshi: | Yes, but my main point is why the UK and other major industrialised countries bother with Daylight Savings. It sounds like a recipe for disaster to me! |
| Lee: | Of course it would be if you forgot to change your clocks. But usually the news on TV and radio remind you, if the need be. |
| Tsuyoshi: | So, what are the benefits? |
| Lee: | By rolling the clocks forward one hour, it makes more daylight available in the evenings. And who’s really up and about at the crack of dawn anyway? At the height of summer, the sun is up until past 9pm – loads of time for after hours outdoor leisure! Besides, it means people don’t put on their lights for another hour. |
| Tsuyoshi: | Then why not employ it all year round? The power savings are obvious! |
| Lee: | Coming from England, I am all for it. However, Scotland in mid-winter would not see the sun come up until nearly 9.30am or 10am. The government has deemed this to be unacceptable on grounds of safety for pedestrians. |
| Tsuyoshi : | On top of that, I’d imagine it to be pretty depressing to be shrouded in darkness until so late in the morning. I wouldn’t fancy that! |
