“Make a pass at...”
<英語でdefinition!> Talk to a man or woman with the intention of dating them.
ここでの"pass"は、「色目」という意味です。"Make a pass"は「ナンパする」「言い寄る」というイディオムで、at以下に言い寄る対象を付け加えることができます。
ちなみに"pass"には、アメフトなど球技の際に「パスを出す」という際の「パス」の意味もあります。状況/文脈によっては、"make a pass"は、「（球技の最中に）パスを出す」という意味にもなります。
例文 I am sure that man with the dark blue shirt made a pass at me. He was constantly complementing my appearance.
（あの紺色のシャツを着た人、きっと私のこと口説こうとしてたのよ。ずっと私の外見を褒めてばっかりいたもの。）

Creig とTomomiは年始のお休みに旅行しようとしているようです。Rather とpreferを使った会話が多数出てきます。上記の設問で習った表現に注意しながら、以下の会話を聞いてみましょう
| Craig: | Any thoughts about where you’d like us to go on our holidays at New Year? |
| Tomomi: | How about Thailand? I’d prefer a hot country this time. |
| Craig: | Me too. My work is going to be very busy up to New Year, so I’d rather just laze around on a beach all day and read a book. |
| Tomomi: | Sounds like a good plan. The south of Thailand has many great beaches. Which would you prefer, a place that is quiet and peaceful, or one that has a lot of nightlife? |
| Craig: | I know you’d rather we went to a place with many bars and nightclubs, but I’d prefer a place like Ko Phi-Phi this time. Sorry. |
| Tomomi: | Please don’t be. Anyway, we can check out the nightlife in Bangkok before we get to the beach. Also I’d like to do some shopping, so I’d prefer to spend a couple of days in Bangkok first. |
| Craig: | Really? I’d prefer going straight to Ko Phi-Phi after arriving in Bangkok. You can do all your shopping before we return to Tokyo. That means you won’t have to carry around extra bags for the whole holiday. |
| Tomomi: | That makes sense. And, how shall we get to Ko Phi-Phi? I’d rather we didn’t take a bus. It would take too long! |
| Craig: | About six or seven hours, probably. How about a flight? The tickets are pretty cheap if you get them at a travel agent on Khao San Road in Bangkok. That’s what my friends did last Spring. |
| Tomomi: | If we leave it that late, we might not be able to get a flight ticket at all. It is New Year, remember! I’d rather buy all the flight tickets together here in Tokyo. |
