「The word is」
<英語でdefinition!> The commonly held view.
Word is (言うこと）にtheをつけて限定することで、「うわさでは～」の意味の慣用表現となります。
例文 The word is Tiffany will be the new sales director, although she has not been told officially yet.
（まだ正式な任命はされていないけれど、うわさではティファニーがつぎの営業部長になるよ。）

単語・表現
物ごとを比べたい時には、“more” や “er”の他にも“as…..as”を使って表現することができます。更に、“as…..as”は、二つの事柄が同じということを表す時にも用います。
下に示す“as…..as”を使った文章は、それぞれequality（同様）または a small difference（少しの違い）, a large difference（大きな違い）のうち、どの意味を持つでしょうか。それぞれの文をドラッグして、正解のボックスの中にドロップしてください。正解ならそのまま配置されます。

| Ray: | So, we have settled on either the apartment in Nakano or the one in Shibuya, right? |
| Ben: | Yes. All the others are either too expensive or not large enough. So, which one do you prefer? |
| Ray: | For me, one of the determining factors is the size of the living room, and the Nakano apartment has a massive one. |
| Ben: | True, but its’ drawback is it doesn’t have nearly as good a view as the one in Shibuya. Also, its’ kitchen is pretty dingy. |
| Ray: | Yes, it may well be dingy, but Nakano’s kitchen is just as spacious as the one in Shibuya, if my memory serves me correctly. And what about the bedrooms? |
| Ben: | Well, Nakano’s bedrooms are very large, but then again the ones in Shibuya are almost as large. There can’t be more than a tatami mat difference in their sizes. |
| Ray: | Yes, but the oblong shape of the Shibuya bedrooms means that there won’t be anywhere near as much space on either side of our double beds - barely enough to walk down. |
| Ben: | Point taken. However, you do realise that the convenience store situated opposite the bedrooms in Nakano will mean it won’t be quite as quiet as Shibuya’s. |
| Ray: | You forget that my place now is opposite a Pachinko parlour, so I am well accustomed to noise. May I suggest earplugs if it’s too noisy? |
| Ben: | OK. And what about the storage space in the two apartments? I’ve accumulated a fair amount of stuff in my seven years here. |
| Ray: | No worries there. They’ve got as many cupboards and wardrobes as each other - plenty of space to store all your junk! |
| Ben: | Well, it seems you are very much set on the Nakano apartment. Let me mull it over for a day or two, and then I’ll call you, OK? |
| Ray: | Don’t leave it too long. The letting agent needs our decision by the end of the week. |
