“Make a pass at...”
<英語でdefinition!> Talk to a man or woman with the intention of dating them.
ここでの"pass"は、「色目」という意味です。"Make a pass"は「ナンパする」「言い寄る」というイディオムで、at以下に言い寄る対象を付け加えることができます。
ちなみに"pass"には、アメフトなど球技の際に「パスを出す」という際の「パス」の意味もあります。状況/文脈によっては、"make a pass"は、「（球技の最中に）パスを出す」という意味にもなります。
例文 I am sure that man with the dark blue shirt made a pass at me. He was constantly complementing my appearance.

理由を述べるとき、一般的に良く使われるbecause。ここでは、フォーマルやカジュアルな場面での使い分けとして、becauseの他にもいくつかの表現があることを覚えておきましょう。
- as〜 ／ 〜なので
- since〜 ／ 〜なので
- due to〜 ／ 〜が原因で
- the reason is〜 ／ 理由は〜 / ～なので
- as a result of〜 ／ ～の結果として
- as a consequence of〜 ／ ～の結果として
「文」が続くasやsince
接続詞として使われる as や since は、becauseと同じように、後ろには「主語＋動詞～」の文が続きます。
She didn’t go to Germany with him as she hadn’t renewed her passport.
（彼女はパスポートの更新をしていなかったので、ドイツに行かなかった。）
「名詞」や「名詞節」が続くdue to、the reason isなど
一方、due to, the reason is, as a result of, as a consequence of の後ろには名詞や名詞節が続きますので注意してください。
Due to the car accident, he had to stay in a hospital for two months.
（交通事故が原因で、彼は2ヶ月入院しなければならなかった。）

| Manager: | When the lorries start arriving then, make sure we have the manpower to ensure that they are unloaded quickly, as we don’t want the warehouse access area to get clogged up and block our out-going deliveries. And what about the components from overseas? What’s the story there? |
| Andrew: | With regards to the microchips, all production has been brought to a halt at our suppliers in Germany since last month. This is due to industrial action being taken by the workforce. The word is this will take some time to resolve. |
| Manager: | In the meantime, I suggest we find someone domestically who can supply our needs. Since this is your area, I will leave it up to you. But what is holding up our other overseas supplies? |
| Andrew: | As a result of stricter customs checks at the ports, it is taking twice or three times as long for the containers to be released. There is no way around this, I’m afraid. |
| Manager: | Why was not made aware of this sooner? As this looks like being the case for the long term, I suggest that we order larger volumes from overseas from now on. |
