Onceの意味は「一度」、At onceで「一度に」。ここからさらに、「すぐに、即時に」という意味にもなります。

旅行代理店で一人の客が飛行機のチケットを予約しようとしています。

| Travel Agent: | Good afternoon, Sir. How may I be of assistance? |
| Customer: | I’m looking for a direct flight from Tokyo to London for late June. Provided it’s not with BA! I had a bad experience with them last time. |
| Travel Agent: | Well, there are three other airlines you could fly with. JAL has the most frequent scheduled flights. |
| Customer: | As long as they aren’t too dear, I’d prefer JAL. Their staff are very attentive. |
| Travel Agent: | Provided you choose not to depart Narita at the weekend, JAL’s ticket prices are exactly the same as other airlines. |
| Customer: | My preferred date of departure from Narita is Monday the 25th of June, returning on Thursday the 12th of July. |
| Travel Agent: | OK. Please wait a moment while I check. Would you consider any other return dates? I foresee many flights already being fully booked around those dates. |
| Customer: | Yes, provided it is after the 9th of July and no later than the 15th, and as long as the outbound flight isn’t too early in the morning. I’d like to avoid staying in a hotel at Narita overnight. |
| Travel Agent: | No problem there. All JAL London-bound flights leave in the early afternoon. I’ve just checked seat availability for the dates you gave me, and there are plenty of seats. |
| Customer: | Excellent. I’ll need to go and get some money from the bank to pay the deposit. I’ll be back in 5 minutes. |

| 旅行代理店: | 抵当を持たないと、財産所有としての金銭的保証は何も無いんだ。もし何かの理由で大量の現金を支払う必要ができた場合、家を売ればいいんだからな。 |
| 客: | その点に関してはご心配ありません。全てのロンドン行きJAL便は午後の早い時間に出発します。お客様に頂いた日程で空席状況を確認いたしましたが、まだたくさん空席が残っております。 |
