「What’s up?」
<英語でdefinition!> What is wrong?
カジュアルに「どうしたの？」と様子を訪ねる表現。What are you doing?(何をしているの？), What is happening?（何が起きてるの？）等の意味でも使われます。
例文 What’s up with Richard? He’s looked miserable all day!
（リチャードは何かあったの？一日中、憂鬱な顔をしているよ！）

間接疑問文（Embedded questions） とは、文中に含まれる疑問文です。例えば；
I know who she is.
文自体は、S（I） + V（know） + O（who she is）の形をとっていますが、この文中に含まれている、who she isの部分が間接疑問文と呼ばれます。
疑問文を導く語（why、what、whoなど）を含みますが、必ずしもクエスチョンマークを伴うとは限りません。間接疑問文では、通常の疑問文とは異なり、動詞の倒置やDo/Doesを伴うことはありません。
通常の疑問文： Who is she?
間接疑問文： I know who she is. Do you know who she is?

| P.A: | I’ve just got word that they’ve boarded their private plane in Osaka. Weather permitting, they’ll be here at 3pm. Without consulting my diary, I’m unable to tell you which manager will be escorting them around, though. |
| M.D: | And could you tell me where in the main building they’ve requested to see? I have to get the relevant section managers to ensure that all employees are hard at it. If this merger is to go through, the right impressions need to be created. |
| P.A: | With all due respect, sir, I’m not sure how many times they’ve been here, but it certainly isn’t the first. Aren’t you being just a little over-zealous? |
| M.D: | I don’t think you are fully aware of who is coming this time. It’s not just a couple of directors - it’s the Managing Director, too! |
| P.A: | I see. Well, leave it to me to speak with the section heads. |
| M.D: | Thank you. Oh, do you know how long my meeting with the bank is scheduled for this afternoon? On second thoughts, ring them and cancel it. There is every likelihood that it’ll drag on late. It might clash with my talk with their M.D. |
| P.A: | Consider it done. Shall I tell them why it is cancelled? |
| M.D: | I’m sure you can come up with a plausible excuse. |
| P.A: | I hope you realise how much it will annoy them, though. This is the second occasion you’ve cancelled this meeting this month! |
